What is IGCSE Chemistry?
IGCSE Chemistry is an international science qualification taken at the end of Year 11. It's offered by Cambridge (0620 — Core/Extended tiers, plus Paper 6 ATP) and Pearson Edexcel (4CH1 — integrated practicals). Both are recognised globally and feed into A Level Chemistry, IB DP HL Chemistry, and medical / pharmacy / chemical engineering degrees.
Cambridge 0620 vs Edexcel 4CH1 — which suits my child?
Both are equally accepted by universities (including medical schools). Cambridge 0620 uses three papers including a separate Paper 6 ATP; Edexcel 4CH1 has two papers with integrated practical questions. Mark-scheme phrasing differs slightly. Your school determines the specification — match the tutor to it, not the other way round.
My child loses marks on organic chemistry — can a tutor focus there?
Yes, this is the most common Chemistry weak spot. Organic mechanisms (alkanes, alkenes, alcohols, carboxylic acids, polymerisation) demand precise reaction-condition recall. We run a focused 4–6 week organic block with reaction-condition drills and weekly past-paper practice.
How are practical skills assessed in IGCSE Chemistry?
Cambridge 0620 has a separate Paper 6 (Alternative to Practical) — a written paper testing experimental design, observation, titration calculations, and apparatus knowledge. Edexcel 4CH1 integrates practical-skills questions into its two main papers. Both reward students who can interpret experiments, not just describe them.
How much do online IGCSE Chemistry tutors cost?
Pricing varies by country: typically AED 50–225/hr (UAE), S$15–90/hr (Singapore), RM 50–245/hr (Malaysia), ₹500–3,000/hr (India), Rs 1,500–6,000/hr (Pakistan), KSh 1,000–5,000/hr (Kenya). Open your city page for live pricing from our current tutor roster.
We're targeting medicine — what grade do we need in IGCSE Chemistry?
UK medical schools and competitive international medical programmes (including Pakistani AKU/DOW, UAE-based MBRU/Gulf Medical, Indian top private medical universities) expect A*/A in IGCSE Chemistry as a baseline. Top medical schools effectively require A*. We focus on the high-tariff Paper 4 topics where A* candidates separate from B-grade peers.
Can the tutor continue into A Level Chemistry or IB DP Chemistry later?
Yes. Many of our IGCSE Chemistry tutors also teach Cambridge International A Level Chemistry (9701), Edexcel International A Level Chemistry (YCH11), and IB DP Chemistry. Continuity across Year 12 and 13 with the same tutor.
Which cities does Tutopiya serve for IGCSE Chemistry tutoring?
