A real internship at a real company, in 3 months

Most companies won’t take a 15-year-old. We will. From age 14, students join Tutopiya’s actual teams, whether that’s marketing, engineering, product, data or AI, work live briefs with a named mentor, and finish with a portfolio, a certificate and a reference letter.

Why now

Why this matters at 15, not 21

By the time most students go looking for experience, the applications that needed it have already been submitted.

Universities abroad ask what you have actually done

A UCAS personal statement or a Common App activities list rewards evidence, not intentions. “I am interested in computer science” is a sentence anyone can write. “I shipped a feature, and here is the code” is not.

Almost no company will take a 15-year-old

That is the real problem. Most work experience available to school students is a few days of observing, or nothing at all. We open our own teams instead, because we can vouch for the supervision and the work.

The skills school does not teach

Reading a brief, asking for what you need, hitting a deadline, taking critical feedback and shipping the second draft. These are learned by doing them inside a working team, not from a textbook.

Test a field before you commit years to it

Better to spend a few weeks finding out that marketing excites you and data does not, than to work that out two years into a degree you have already paid for.

The process

How it works

Four steps, and you can stop at any of them. Nothing is payable until you have the full picture.

  1. 01

    Register and secure your place

A short form, then your first SGD 25 through Stripe to secure a place in the intake. Refundable for 14 days if it turns out not to be a fit.

  2. 02

A short call, with a parent

Within a few days we talk through what the student wants, match them to the right track, and answer the practical questions: hours, start dates and timing around school. If it is not right for them, say so on that call and we refund you.

  3. 03

    Onboarding and your first brief

The student is introduced to their team and assigned a named mentor, gets access to the tools we actually use, and picks up a real brief with a real deadline.

  4. 04

    Finish in three months

Live projects throughout, then you finish with a portfolio of the work, a certificate of completion and a reference letter that speaks to what the student actually did.

Every track runs for the same 3 months. Track details are indicative for our first intake. Exact projects, weekly hours and start dates are confirmed with each student and their parent before anyone commits, and are shaped by the student’s age, availability and school timetable.

The curriculum

Inside the 3 months

Every track follows the same arc: get useful, do the work, then turn it into something you can show. Only the projects change.

  1. Module 01 / 03
    Get inside

Learn the ropes and ship something small

The first month is about becoming useful. You meet the team, learn the tools, and complete a small piece of real work so the shape of the job stops being abstract.

    • Meet your team and your named mentor
    • Get set up on the tools the team actually uses
    • Sit in on real team calls and see how work gets decided
    • Take a small, scoped brief and see it through

By the end of month 1 Your first completed piece of work, reviewed properly and given honest feedback.

  2. Module 02 / 03
    Do the work

    Own a real project

The middle month is the substance of the programme. You take on your main brief and carry it, including the parts where it does not go to plan.

    • Take on your main brief for the programme, with a real deadline
    • Work through review cycles: draft, critique, redraft
    • Ask colleagues for what you need, which is a skill in itself
    • Handle something going wrong and adjust

By the end of month 2 A substantial piece of work you took from brief to finished, with your fingerprints on it.

  3. Module 03 / 03
    Make it count

    Finish, present, and package it

The last month turns the work into something you can show. Finishing well and being able to explain what you did is most of the value.

    • Complete and ship your main project
    • Present what you did, and what you would do differently, to the team
    • Write up your portfolio piece with your mentor
    • Receive your certificate and reference letter

By the end of month 3 A portfolio piece, a certificate, and a reference letter that names what you actually did.

What you graduate with

You finish with proof, not a memory

Plenty of work experience ends with nothing you can show anyone. This ends with three things you can put in front of a university or an employer.

Evidence

A portfolio piece

The actual work: merged code, a campaign and its numbers, a research report, a prototype. Something an admissions tutor or an employer can open and judge for themselves.

Recognition

A certificate of completion

Issued by Tutopiya, naming the track and confirming the 3 months were completed. It records what was finished, not merely what was attended.

Endorsement

A reference letter

Written by the mentor who supervised the work and describing what the student actually did. We do not write references that claim more than the work supports.

Why it stands out

How your profile reads differently

Admissions tutors read thousands of applications saying more or less the same thing. The difference is never enthusiasm. It’s whether there’s anything underneath it.

Marketing

What most applications say

“I have always been passionate about marketing, and I help run my school’s Instagram.”

What yours could say

“I planned and ran a campaign for an education company, then wrote up why the second version outperformed the first.”

Software Engineering

What most applications say

“I taught myself to code and completed several online courses.”

What yours could say

“I had code reviewed by an engineer and merged into a product students actually use. Here is the commit history.”

Product & UX

What most applications say

“I am interested in design and I enjoy solving problems.”

What yours could say

“I interviewed students about how they revise, then prototyped and tested a fix for the problem they all described.”

Data & Analytics

What most applications say

“I enjoy maths and would like to study data science at university.”

What yours could say

“I built a dashboard from real learning data and presented three findings to the team that owns the product.”

A reference with a name on it

Written by the mentor who actually supervised the work, describing what the student did. Not a template with a name dropped in.

Work someone can look at

Code, a campaign, a report, a prototype. An admissions tutor can open it. Evidence survives scrutiny in a way adjectives do not.

A company that exists

Tutopiya is a real, operating business with real students and a real team, verifiable in a way a certificate mill is not.

Something to say when asked

Interviews expose thin claims quickly. Three months of real work gives a student specifics to talk about, including what went wrong.

Examples of the kind of line this work makes possible, not outcomes we promise. No one can guarantee a university place and we will not pretend otherwise. What this does is give an admissions tutor or an employer something concrete and checkable to weigh, instead of adjectives.

Included

Straight talk

Let’s be clear about what this is

This is a learning programme you pay to join, at SGD 25 a month for 3 months, SGD 75 in total, like a short course. The student is not an employee, is not on a contract, and is not paid a wage. We are not offering a teenager a job.

What we are offering is access to a company that is genuinely operating, a mentor whose actual job is to teach, briefs that matter enough for someone to review properly, and evidence at the end that stands up to scrutiny. If a student’s work isn’t good enough to ship, we’ll tell them, and help them fix it. That’s the value.

If you were hoping for paid employment for a 16-year-old, this isn’t it, and we’d much rather you knew that now than after a phone call.

The company

Who you’d be joining

This programme is new and hasn’t run a cohort yet, so we’re not going to show you testimonials from students who don’t exist. Here’s what we can show you instead: the company, and the evidence on why this kind of experience counts.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is this a paid job?

No, and we want to be completely straight about that. This is a structured learning programme that you pay to join, in the same way you would pay for a course. The student is not an employee, is not on a contract and does not receive a wage. What they get instead is supervised experience inside a working company, a mentor whose job is to teach them, and evidence of real work at the end. If you are looking for paid employment for a teenager, this is not that, and we would rather you knew now.

How long is the programme?

3 months. It is deliberately short. Three months is long enough for a student to be given real work, see it through and finish with something worth showing, and short enough to fit around school without becoming another thing hanging over them. It is a focused sprint to build a profile, not an open-ended commitment.

How much does it cost?

SGD 25 per month for 3 months, SGD 75 in total. There is no joining fee and no deposit. You are billed monthly rather than in one lump, and the first month is charged when you register.

Am I charged when I register?

Yes, your first SGD 25. That payment is what secures the place, because places are limited by mentor capacity and we cannot hold one against a form fill. Payment is taken by Stripe; we never see your card details. If the programme is not the right fit after your call, or we cannot offer you a start date that works, ask within 14 days of your first payment and we will refund it in full.

What if the programme is not right for us after the call?

Tell us on the call and we refund your first payment in full, no argument and no forms to fill in. You have 14 days from that payment. We would rather refund someone than run a student through 3 months that were never going to suit them.

Can I cancel?

Yes, at any point, with no cancellation fee and no minimum term. Cancel and no further payments are taken. Within the first 14 days you also get your first payment back; after that you keep access for the month you have paid for and simply are not billed again.

What ages is it for?

The programme is designed for school students roughly 14 to 18. What a student works on is matched to their age and experience: a 14-year-old and an 18-year-old are given very different briefs. If you are outside that range, register anyway and tell us your age: we are using this page to work out where the demand actually is.

How much time does it take, and will it clash with school?

It is built around school, not the other way round. We expect a light weekly commitment agreed with you and your parents before you start, with flexibility around exam periods and holidays. Schoolwork comes first. A programme that damages a student’s grades has failed at the thing it was supposed to help with.

Is it remote?

Yes. Everything runs online, so students can take part from anywhere without travel or relocation. Tutopiya has operated as an online-first company for years, and our teams already work this way. This is how we actually run, not a special arrangement for interns.

My child is under 18. What about supervision and safety?

Every student is assigned a named mentor and works within a defined team. A parent or guardian is involved from the first call, must consent before the student starts, and can raise anything with us at any point. We will set out our safeguarding arrangements, communication channels and supervision model in full before you commit. Please ask us directly, and hold us to the answer.

What does the student actually come away with?

Three things: portfolio work they can show: code, a campaign, a report, a prototype, depending on the track; a certificate of completion; and a reference letter from their mentor that describes what they genuinely did. We do not write references that say more than the work supports.

Do I need experience already?

No. Being taught is the entire point. Tracks start from the beginning and mentors expect to explain things. What matters is that you turn up, ask questions when you are stuck, and do the work you said you would do.

What if I do not know which track I want?

Choose “Not sure yet” on the form. Working out which direction suits a student is a perfectly good reason to do this in the first place, and it is one of the things the first call is for.

When does it start?

We are building the first intake now and places are limited by how many students each mentor can properly support. Register and we will contact you with dates within a few days, and early registrations are prioritised. If we cannot offer a start date that works for you, we refund you in full.
