What the free training covers

Tutor & Teacher Training is free, self-paced CPD for private tutors and school teachers. Videos, notes and quizzes you can work through at your own pace.

IGCSE, International A Level, IB and PSLE from the basics

Each curriculum from the ground up โ€” how it is structured, assessed and graded, what the command words mean, and how the papers differ from a national curriculum. It assumes no prior exposure.

Moving between boards: what transfers and what does not

Side-by-side comparisons of the boards โ€” Cambridge against Edexcel at IGCSE, IGCSE against IB MYP, International A Level against IB Diploma โ€” covering assessment objectives, mark scheme wording, grading and the habits that do not carry across.

Running a successful trial lesson

How to structure a first lesson, diagnose a new student quickly, and convert a trial into a regular booking.

Engaging students and parents online

Holding attention over video, and keeping parents informed without being pushy.

SEND strategies for online tutoring

Supporting students with ADHD, autism or dyslexia in a one-to-one online setting.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a job application?

No. It is a readiness guide, not a hiring decision. It tells you how your background lines up with teaching international curricula online and which training closes the gaps. Applying is a separate step, and you can do it whenever you are ready.

Is the training really free?

Yes. The Tutor & Teacher Training course is free and self-paced, delivered as videos, notes and quizzes. It covers IGCSE, A Level, IB and PSLE, running a trial lesson, engaging students and parents, and supporting students with ADHD, autism or dyslexia online.

Do I need a teaching qualification to tutor?

Not necessarily. A QTS, PGCE or B.Ed is the strongest signal in an application and families ask about it directly, but experienced tutors and strong graduates without one are matched on demonstrated results and completed training instead.

I have never taught Cambridge or IB โ€” does that rule me out?

No, and it is the most common gap we see in otherwise strong teachers. Assessment style is what differs most between a national curriculum and an international one, and that is exactly what the curriculum module of the training covers.

Where do the demand numbers come from?

They are open student requests on Tutopiya, counted per curriculum and subject from the same data that drives our tutor job pages. They move as students join and are matched, so treat them as a current snapshot rather than a fixed figure.

Can I tutor from Europe given the time difference?

Yes, and it is one of the more common questions we get. Our students cluster in Singapore, the Gulf and South East Asia, so their after-school lessons fall in the late afternoon and evening across Europe. The check shows how your own country's hours line up โ€” we currently work with tutors in 27 countries.

What subjects are in most demand?

Mathematics and the sciences at Cambridge IGCSE are consistently the highest-volume combinations, followed by A Level and IB Diploma in the same subjects. Select your subjects in the check and it will show you the live figure rather than a generalisation.
