Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences (Double Award) (0654)

IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences, two grades’ worth.

Co-ordinated Sciences covers nearly all of biology, chemistry and physics for two IGCSE grades. Your tutor helps you keep all three moving, with practice for the long theory paper and the practical.

A current of 0.25 A flows through a lamp when the potential difference across it is 6.0 V. Calculate the resistance of the lamp.[2 marks]

This is worth 2 marks. They go for:

  • Use R = V ÷ I (1 mark)
  • R = 6.0 ÷ 0.25 = 24 Ω (1 mark)

Examiner tip: Write the unit, Ω (ohms). Check the current is in amps first: 250 mA is 0.25 A.

Assessment

How Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences (Double Award) is assessed

It’s a double award, graded from A*A* to GG. Core students take Papers 1 and 3 and can get CC–GG. Extended students learn the Core and Supplement content, take Papers 2 and 4, and can get A*A*–GG. Everyone also takes Paper 5 or Paper 6.

Syllabus 0654, for exams in 2025–2027. The 2028–2029 syllabus has the same papers and no significant changes.

Core (grades CC–GG)

  • Paper 1: Multiple Choice (Core)

    40 four-option multiple-choice questions

    Time
    45 min
    Marks
    40
    Weight
    30%
  • Paper 3: Theory (Core)

    Short-answer and structured questions

Where marks are lost

Common Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences mistakes

  • Running out of time on the theory paper.

Paper 3 or 4 is 2 hours for 120 marks, about a mark a minute. Move on from a stuck question and come back to it at the end.

  • Mixing up mitosis and meiosis.

Mitosis gives genetically identical cells for growth and repair. Meiosis halves the chromosome number to make genetically different gametes. Extended students need both.

  • Calculating without converting units.

Change mA to A, kJ to J and cm to m before you substitute into an equation, then give the answer in the unit the question asks for.
