One-to-one online O-Level English Language (1184) tutoring from Singapore-based tutors for Sec 1-4 students. Argumentative essay technique, situational writing, visual text comprehension, summary writing, oral picture-stimulus + reading aloud — all four papers coached by tutors who mark to the MOE rubrics. Free trial, pay only if it's the right fit.
O-Level English (1184) is the L1 (first language) score that anchors the L1R5 used for JC posting — a B3 here costs more on the JC application than a B3 anywhere else. The exam tests four very different skills (writing, comprehension, listening, oral), and students often master 3 of the 4 but lose marks on the weakest. Schools rarely have time to coach each component individually.
Our O-Level English tutors are based in Singapore and align lessons to the MOE / SEAB syllabus. They drill Paper 1 argumentative essay technique (the highest-mark-impact essay genre), Paper 2 visual text analysis and summary writing, the listening paper structure, and run mock orals with examiner-style follow-up questions.
Hand-picked tutors based in Singapore who actively teach English Language for the Singapore Secondary curriculum — NIE-qualified, ex-MOE, and proven track record of strong exam outcomes. Book a free trial to be matched.

Four components: Paper 1 (Writing — Situational + Continuous, 1h 50min, 35%); Paper 2 (Comprehension — Visual Text + Comprehension Passage + Summary, 1h 50min, 35%); Paper 3 (Listening, 35min, 10%); Paper 4 (Oral — Reading Aloud + Spoken Interaction with Visual Stimulus, ~20min, 20%).
Past O-Level prompts cluster around recurring themes (technology, environment, society, personal growth, education). The argumentative essay rewards structured argument (clear thesis, 3-4 well-developed body paragraphs with evidence, balanced rebuttal, conclusion). We coach a flexible framework students can apply to any prompt, then drill it on past papers with examiner-style feedback.
Oral has two parts: Reading Aloud (Part 1 — accurate pronunciation, intonation, expressiveness, ~3 minutes) and Spoken Interaction (Part 2 — discuss a visual stimulus with the examiner, ~8 minutes). We drill voice projection, register awareness, and the structured response framework (observation → personal experience → broader perspective → opinion) that consistently scores in the A range.
L1R5 = the sum of L1 (English) grade + 5 best relevant subjects, where lower is better (A1 = 1, A2 = 2, etc.). Top JCs require L1R5 of 6-8. Because English is fixed (you can't substitute another language), an A1 in English is a 1-point ceiling on the score and removes the largest source of risk. That's why our O-Level English tutoring focuses on locking in the A1.
Sec 3 is the standard starting point — argumentative essay expectations jump and weekly tests start building toward prelim grades. Sec 4 students typically intensify before prelims (June-August) and again before O-Levels (October-November). Weaker writers benefit from earlier intervention (Sec 2) to build vocabulary range.
Live pricing is shown in the tutor cards above. O-Level English rates in Singapore typically range from SGD 60-150/hr for online sessions depending on tutor experience. The free trial is genuinely free, no card required.
