AQA is the largest A Level awarding body in the UK by student entries — it dominates state schools, sixth-form colleges, and a significant share of independents. The 2017 linear reform turned AQA A Levels into single-sitting qualifications: all papers sat at the end of Year 13 in the May/June exam series, no modular structure. This linear format mirrors what universities (and especially Oxbridge admissions) expect — students demonstrate sustained understanding across the full two-year course in one assessment window.
AQA's exam style is recognisable: predictable past-paper patterns, well-defined mark schemes, and structured short + long-answer questions. Examiners tend to reward systematic problem-solving and clear methodology. The Practical Endorsement (for sciences) and required practicals (a specified list of 12 across the 2 years) are assessed alongside content — students must complete and document them. Our online tutors deliver AQA-specific A Level lessons across Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English Language — board-specific past-paper drilling, AQA Large Data Set coaching for Maths Paper 3, and Paper 3 25-mark essay coaching for Biology.

Predominantly yes. AQA is the largest UK domestic A Level board, taught at most UK state schools, sixth-form colleges, and many independents. A handful of British international schools (especially in Europe and parts of the Middle East) offer AQA A Levels as an alternative to Cambridge or Edexcel IAL, but the international AQA cohort is much smaller. Most international students take Cambridge IAL or Edexcel IAL instead.
AQA A Levels (post-2017 reform) are linear: all papers sat at the end of Year 13 in a single May/June exam series. There are no modular re-sits within the course — only full re-takes the following year if needed. Most subjects have 3 written papers totalling 6–7.5 hours, plus the Practical Endorsement (sciences) or Non-Exam Assessment (English, Art, etc.) assessed across the course.
AQA Mathematics 7357 specifies a Large Data Set (LDS) that students must work with during teaching. The LDS appears in Paper 3 (Statistics) and rewards students familiar with its structure, columns, and patterns. Tutors include LDS-focused sessions in Year 12 statistics teaching and revisit it in pre-exam revision blocks.
AQA Physics 7408, Chemistry 7405, and Biology 7402 each include the Practical Endorsement — assessed by the school across the 2-year course via 12 specified practicals. Students are reported pass/fail on the Endorsement independently of their A Level grade. Most UK universities expect a pass on the Endorsement for STEM offers. Tutors don't run the practicals themselves but coach the assessed-practical question types in Papers 1, 2, and 3 that test understanding of the same techniques.
All UK A Level boards target the same A Level standard — universities treat them as equivalent. AQA tends to have the most predictable past-paper patterns (largest cohort = most historical papers to drill against). OCR tends to favour real-world context and synoptic reasoning. Edexcel sits between. The 'easier board' question usually reflects familiarity rather than absolute difficulty.
