Pearson Edexcel International A Level Mathematics tutoring for Birmingham students
Birmingham's Edexcel IAL Maths students typically come from international students at British-international schools across the West Midlands; Year-13 retake students at sixth-form colleges preferring the modular re-sit flexibility over UK domestic linear boards; and homeschool candidates following a structured Edexcel IAL pathway. Most Birmingham sixth forms use AQA, OCR, or UK Edexcel A Level (linear); Edexcel IAL serves a smaller but consistent cohort. Our online tutors in GMT/BST deliver YMA01 lessons across Edgbaston, Harborne, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, and Moseley.

Pearson Edexcel · qualification code YMA01 · Modular specification
AS Level (Year 12)
Pearson Edexcel International AS Mathematics is modular: typically P1 + P2 + (S1 or M1 or D1). Three units sat at AS level worth 50% of the full A Level.
Full A Level (Year 13)
Full Edexcel International A Level Mathematics totals 6 units: P1, P2, P3, P4 plus two applied (M1/M2/M3, S1/S2/S3, or D1/D2). Modular structure means students can re-sit individual units to improve grades.
Exam series
Two exam series each year: January and June. Modular re-sits are a key Edexcel IAL advantage - failed or low-graded units can be resat without retaking the whole A Level.
Grade boundaries
Grade A* on the full A Level requires an overall A plus 90% averaged on the three A2 papers (P3, P4, and one applied A2 unit). Boundaries vary per series.

Why would a Birmingham student take Edexcel IAL instead of UK Edexcel A Level?
UK Edexcel A Level is linear — single sitting at end of Year 13. Edexcel International A Level (YMA01) is modular — 6 units across January + June sessions with unit-by-unit re-sit options. Birmingham students choose IAL for: modular re-sit flexibility; international transfers; Year-13 retake scenarios; or homeschool pathways.
Can a Birmingham student sit Edexcel IAL exams locally?
Yes — Pearson Edexcel has exam centres across the Midlands including British Council Birmingham and Pearson-accredited independent test centres. Both January and June sessions are available.
Is Edexcel IAL accepted by University of Birmingham and Aston?
Yes — University of Birmingham, Aston University, Birmingham City University, and University of Warwick (in nearby Coventry) all accept Pearson Edexcel International A Levels alongside UK domestic A Levels. UCAS points map identically.
