Scholarships for Sri Lankan students

Two groups. First, schemes where Sri Lanka is on the eligible-country list: Commonwealth Master's and PhD Scholarships, Chevening and GREAT for the UK, Australia Awards, Manaaki New Zealand, DAAD's EPOS and Helmut Schmidt programmes, the Swedish Institute Scholarships and the Felix Scholarships, among others in this collection. Second, every award open to all international students — most university merit and entrance scholarships worldwide. A fully funded scholarship — tuition plus living costs — is realistic but very competitive, and it is essentially a postgraduate game: Commonwealth, Chevening, Australia Awards and Manaaki New Zealand all fund master's or doctoral study. For undergraduates, the honest picture is partial funding: university entrance awards and tuition discounts that cut the bill rather than erase it. Many Sri Lankan students combine a partial award with a more affordable destination or a shorter UK three-year degree to keep totals manageable.

Government schemes run far ahead of the academic year: Chevening closes in early November for the following September, Commonwealth deadlines fall around October to December, and Australia Awards applications for a given intake close by 30 April the year before. That means starting scholarship research 12 to 18 months before you want to fly out — earlier than most A-Level and degree students expect. Yes. Sri Lankan A-Levels are accepted for direct entry by universities across the UK, Australia, Canada and beyond, and entrance scholarships at those universities assess you on the same results. Strong A-Level grades — or strong Cambridge/Edexcel international qualifications — are exactly what merit-based entrance awards are scored on, and no separate qualification is needed to be considered.
