Australia funds international students through two distinct channels. The government's Australia Awards fully fund students from partner countries — eligibility is set country by country, so the first check is whether your citizenship qualifies for the current intake. The second channel is university merit funding, and it's substantial: Melbourne, Sydney, Monash and Griffith all run international scholarships in our catalog, spanning undergraduate and postgraduate study.
University awards range from percentage fee discounts to full tuition, and several consider strong applicants at offer stage. Combined with Australia's long post-study work runway on the subclass 485 visa, a partial scholarship changes the whole cost-benefit picture — which is why our counsellors treat the scholarship search and the course shortlist as one exercise, not two.

It depends on your citizenship: the Awards target students from partner countries across the Indo-Pacific, Asia and beyond, and the participating-country list and priority fields are set for each intake. Check the current official list before planning around it — and if you don't qualify, the university merit awards in this catalog carry no nationality restrictions.
Some do — several merit schemes assess every international applicant at offer stage and attach a fee discount to strong admission files, while others (like leadership-focused awards) want a separate application with evidence beyond grades. Each scholarship's page lists which kind it is; either way, a strong early application is the common denominator.
The Australia Awards can, for eligible applicants — tuition, travel and living support. University awards more typically discount tuition by a percentage or fixed amount per year, sometimes renewed annually subject to grades. Read the renewal conditions before you budget: an award that requires a distinction average to keep is a different financial plan from a guaranteed one.
