IGCSE English Revision Vocabulary: Comment Banks
IGCSE English revision vocabulary is not a random “advanced words” list. Build comment banks for tone, writer’s effect, and Literature methods — then use them in timed answers.

Three lists to maintain
| List | Examples (expand your own) |
|---|---|
| Tone | sombre, ironic, urgent, detached |
| Effects on reader | unsettles, persuades, creates sympathy |
| Methods | contrast, cyclical structure, dialogue |
Weekly habit (15 minutes)
- Add five words only from marked work or examiner reports.
- Write one new sentence using each in a past-paper answer.
- Delete words you never actually use — banks should stay lean.
Literature: link words to themes on your quotation cards.
