How to Write IGCSE Biology Notes That Score
IGCSE biology notes fail when they are pretty but passive — long copied paragraphs with no recall or exam questions. This guide shows how to write notes your future self can revise from in under 30 minutes per topic.

The one-page template per subtopic

| Title | Syllabus code + subtopic name |
| Key definitions | 5–8 lines max, exam wording |
| Diagram | One large labelled figure (pencil) |
| Process | Numbered steps (osmosis, reflex arc, etc.) |
| Compare | Small table if topic has pairs (mitosis/meiosis) |
| Exam | 2 past question codes + one mistake you made |
Cornell-style split page
- Right column: lesson content during class.
- Left column: questions you could be asked (“Explain osmosis in root hair cells”).
- Bottom strip: 5-sentence summary without looking up.
After class — 15-minute upgrade
- Highlight only command words and named structures.
- Redraw diagram from memory.
- Add flashcard cues — flashcard guide.
What to leave out
- Full textbook paragraphs.
- Irrelevant A Level depth.
- Unlabelled diagrams copied from the internet.
