Cash-in is how Pearson turns your unit marks into one International GCSE English Language A grade on the 9–1 scale. For modular English, the qualification cash-in code is 4XEA1.

Unit codes you must complete

Your centre enters 4XEA1 when both units are ready to be aggregated into the final award.
Banking units across series
- Unit 1 in November, Unit 2 in June (example) — allowed if your centre banks grades under your candidate UCI.
- No final grade until cash-in is entered and both units are complete.
- Confirm deadlines with your exams officer (Pearson Information Manual each year).
Optional Spoken Language Endorsement (SLE)
Linear and modular routes can offer optional SLE (separate endorsement, not part of the 9–1 English Language grade). Entry rules tie SLE to your final series when you cash-in — your school enters the correct combination (see Pearson entry guidance). Practise speaking tasks with your teacher; it does not replace written units.
What students should do
- After Unit 1: log mark, errors, and skills gap — Unit 1 revision.
- Before cash-in series: sit full Unit 2 timed — Unit 2 revision.
- Ask school: when they will enter 4XEA1.
