Best International Schools in Bahrain 2026

Bahrain’s international school sector is smaller than Dubai’s or Abu Dhabi’s but punches above its weight in quality. The island’s top British and American schools consistently produce strong university placements and serve a genuinely international community.

1. St Christopher’s School

Curriculum: British (IGCSE/A-Level) | Location: Isa Town | Fees: BHD 3,000–5,500/year ($8,000–$14,600)

Bahrain’s oldest and most prestigious international school, founded in 1961. St Christopher’s has an outstanding track record in IGCSE and A-Level results, with graduates regularly gaining admission to leading UK universities. The school’s long history gives it a deep alumni network and an established reputation.

2. British School of Bahrain (BSB)

Curriculum: British (IGCSE/A-Level) | Location: Hamala | Fees: BHD 2,800–5,000/year ($7,400–$13,300)

BSB is the second major British school in Bahrain — large, well-resourced and with a strong pastoral reputation. It serves a broad international community and has particularly strong links with UK universities. Popular with British and Commonwealth families.

3. Nadeen International School

Curriculum: British/IB | Location: Hamad Town | Fees: BHD 2,500–4,500/year ($6,600–$12,000)

Nadeen offers both British curriculum pathways and IB options, giving families curriculum flexibility. It has modern facilities and has grown significantly in reputation over recent years.

4. AMA International School

Curriculum: British (IGCSE/A-Level) | Location: Zinj | Fees: BHD 2,200–4,000/year ($5,800–$10,600)

AMA is a well-established and popular British curriculum school. It serves a large student body across a wide range of nationalities and has a strong record in IGCSE examinations.

5. Ibn Khuldoon National School

Curriculum: American/IB | Location: Isa Town | Fees: BHD 2,000–3,500/year ($5,300–$9,300)

Ibn Khuldoon is Bahrain’s leading school offering the American curriculum and IB Diploma, serving a predominantly Bahraini and Gulf national student body alongside international families. It has a distinctive focus on Arab identity and culture alongside international academic rigour.

How to Choose the Right School

University destination. UK-bound → St Christopher’s or BSB. Globally mobile → Nadeen (IB). US-bound → Ibn Khuldoon.

Location within Bahrain. Bahrain is small — most families can reasonably commute to any school. Isa Town and Hamala (where most major international schools are located) are accessible from the main expat residential areas.

Curriculum continuity. If your child has followed British curriculum in a previous posting, IGCSE continuity at St Christopher’s or BSB makes the most sense.

2026: Exam Cancellations Context

The 2026 Cambridge summer examination series was affected by cancellations across the Gulf. Bahrain schools followed Cambridge’s NECM process for awarding grades. This is relevant for Year 11 (IGCSE) and Year 13 (A-Level) students at St Christopher’s, BSB and AMA.
