IB Diploma November 2026 Exam Session: Complete Guide
The IB Diploma Programme November 2026 session is the smaller of the IB’s two annual exam sessions (the larger is May). It’s commonly used by schools in the Southern Hemisphere and by DP2 students at schools that run November as their main series. Here’s what’s genuinely confirmed, and why an IB exam-dates guide reads differently from a Cambridge or Edexcel one.
What’s Confirmed
- Exam window: late October to mid-November 2026. Public sources consistently place the session in this range but don’t agree on exact opening/closing dates — see “Why We’re Not Giving You Exact Dates” below.
- Results release: January 2027.
Why We’re Not Giving You Exact Dates
Unlike Cambridge International, the IB does not publish a single public zone-based timetable that applies uniformly across all schools worldwide. Exact subject exam dates and times are communicated by the IB directly to each school’s IB Coordinator, who then confirms them to students. This is a structural difference, not a gap in our research — there genuinely isn’t one public global timetable to link to the way there is for Cambridge or Edexcel.
Your IB Coordinator is the authoritative source for your exact exam dates. If you’ve seen a specific day-by-day schedule online from a third-party site, verify it against what your coordinator confirms — third-party IB date pages are frequently estimates or drawn from a previous year’s pattern.
Registration
Registration for the November session is handled by your school, not by you directly. Standard registration deadlines are typically several months before the session (commonly cited as around April for a November session) with a later window for confirmed candidates, but exact dates are set by your school, not published centrally by the IB. Speak to your coordinator as early as possible if you’re considering the November session — for retakes in particular, registration can close well before the exam window itself.
What This Means For Your Preparation
Not having an exact public date shouldn’t slow down your preparation:
- Confirm your registration status now — ask your coordinator whether you’re entered for November 2026, and for which subjects.
- Get your personal exam schedule from your coordinator as soon as it’s available — typically a few months before the session.
- Prepare against the syllabus, not the calendar — subject content and assessment objectives don’t change based on the exact date your paper falls on.
- Plan your Internal Assessments and Extended Essay deadlines separately — these are usually due well before the exam window and have their own school-set deadlines.
Results and What Comes Next
November session results are released in January 2027. If you’re not satisfied with your results, options include requesting a re-mark (Enquiry Upon Results) within the IB’s published window, or preparing for the May 2027 session.
