IGCSE Results Day 2026: What to Do Next (Cambridge & Edexcel)
Cambridge IGCSE results are released on 18 August 2026. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE results follow two days later, on 20 August 2026 — a different day, easy to mix up if you’re checking guidance written for “IGCSE results” generically. Check which board your syllabus is with before you go looking for your grades.
This article is about what to actually do once you have them.
Step 1: Check Your Statement of Results Carefully
- Confirm your name, candidate number and subjects are all correct before doing anything else
- Note the grade for each subject — Cambridge grades A*–G (U for ungraded); some Edexcel International GCSE subjects use the 9–1 scale, others A*–G, depending on the subject
- This is a statement of results, not your certificate — the certificate comes later, after “cash-in” if you want one issued now (see below)
Step 2: Decide What Each Grade Means for Your Next Step
- Moving to A-Level, IB Diploma, or another Level 3 qualification? Check the entry requirements for each subject you want to study — some (especially Maths, Sciences) have specific minimum IGCSE grades
- Applying to a new school or sixth form? Most admissions decisions this time of year are grade-dependent — get your results to them as soon as you can
- One grade holding you back? You don’t need every subject to be perfect — focus on whichever specific grade is actually blocking your next step
Step 3: If a Grade Wasn’t What You Expected
You have two real options, and they solve different problems:
- Remark — corrects a possible marking error on the paper you already sat. We’ve covered the full clerical check / re-mark / appeal process, deadlines and fees for both boards in our IGCSE post-results services guide
- Retake — a genuinely fresh attempt, in the next October/November 2026 session or May/June 2027. Both boards allow unlimited retakes and count your best result once you cash in. Full detail on timing, cost and how to decide in our complete IGCSE retakes guide
A remark is worth trying first if your grade sits close to a boundary and felt off compared to your mocks — it’s lower-cost than a full retake and doesn’t cost you a session. A retake makes more sense if the gap between your result and what you need is bigger than a marking review is realistically going to close.
Use the Remark or Resit Decision Tool for an instant fee, deadline and recommendation for Cambridge or Edexcel — or track the deadline with the Resit & Remark Deadline Countdown.
Step 4: Cash-In (If You Want a Certificate Now)
- If you’re happy with your grades and don’t plan to retake, ask your centre about cashing in — this issues your final certificate showing your grades for that syllabus
- If you’re planning to retake a subject, you can usually wait and cash in later once you have your best result, rather than cashing in now and again after a retake

However Results Land, There’s a Clear Next Step
A disappointing grade on results day feels like the end of the road in the moment. It usually isn’t — a remark, a retake, or simply moving forward with the grades you have are all legitimate paths, and which one is right depends on your specific situation, not a blanket rule.
