What is IB MYP?

IB MYP stands for International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. It is a five year course, for students aged 11 to 16. The purpose of MYP is to prepare students for the 2 year IB Diploma Programme (IBDP).

MYP encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world.

IB MYP Curriculum

The MYP requires at least 50 hours of teaching time for each subject group in each year of the programme. The subjects taught in the are divided into eight subject groups, and they are as follows:

Interdisciplinary unit

Each year, students are required to engage in at least one collaboratively planned interdisciplinary unit. This involves at least two subject groups.

The purpose of interdisciplinary learning is to allow students to understand bodies of knowledge from two or more subject groups to integrate them and create new understanding.

This helps to foster critical thinking in students, as well as maximising their ability to understand complex issues.

Long-term project

For students that complete their MYP in year 3 or 4 they will take on the community project whereas for students that complete their MYP in year 5, will complete the personal project.

The long-term project will allow students to be able to extend their knowledge as well as develop new skills and attitude.

The project will allow the students to go through these:

  1. Learn, identify and discover.
  2. Create, plan and record the development of the project.
  3. Decision-making, develop understanding and communication skills.

A project from start to finish, from identifying the problem to solving and finding a solution to the problem.

It is an on-screen examination that is optional for the MYP assessment. A software had been specially designed for students to take this eAssessment. The software was also developed to be easy to use such that students can take the test without trainings.
