Use this checklist if you may withdraw your child from a UAE school mid-year—for relocation, safety, finances, or other reasons. It pairs with our deeper guides on fees, withdrawal, and transfer certificates and sitting exams after leaving the UAE.

Disclaimer: Not legal advice. Confirm fee and notice rules against your contract and seek legal counsel if you have a dispute or receive formal demands.

School and fees

  • Read your enrolment contract: notice period, Term 3 / annual liability, refund rules.
  • Send written withdrawal notice (email with read receipt or tracked ticket)—keep a copy.
  • Request an itemised fee statement and clarify last day of attendance.
  • If you cannot pay in full, propose a payment plan or settlement in writing early.
  • Save all emails with admissions, finance, and the principal.

Documents and records

  • Request transfer certificate / leaving certificate and report cards in writing; note deadlines the new school gave you.
  • Collect predicted grades, coursework, or internal assessment evidence if your child is in exam years (may matter for boards and new schools).
  • Export or download portal grades, timetables, and teacher contacts before access ends.

Exams (IGCSE, International A-Level, IB)

Regulator and support (if stuck)

  • If documents are withheld or processes are unclear, check your emirate’s education regulator official site for parent complaints or guidance (e.g. KHDA for many Dubai private schools, ADEK in Abu Dhabi—use current official names and URLs).

Learning continuity

  • Line up online learning support so gaps do not open between leaving one school and starting the next—or while you sort exams.
