- Budget: Roughly LKR 200,000–450,000 per year (primary). Newer or smaller schools, recognised curricula.
- Mid-tier: Roughly LKR 550,000–950,000 per year (primary). Established schools, good facilities.
- Premium: Roughly LKR 1,100,000–2,000,000+ per year (primary). Top facilities, strong IGCSE/IBDP.
Secondary and exam years are typically higher. Colombo has the widest choice.
Budget end: example schools and fees
Gateway College (certain campuses), Lyceum International School and Elizabeth Moir School (certain year groups) can sit in the budget band. Primary often LKR 250,000–450,000 per year. Check each school’s latest fee schedule.
Mid-tier: example schools and fees
Colombo International School (CIS), British School in Colombo and Oberoi International School are mid-tier examples. Primary often LKR 600,000–950,000; secondary/IBDP can be LKR 950,000–1,400,000. Strong British/IB provision.

What to watch beyond tuition
- Registration and enrolment fees (one-off; can be LKR 30,000–100,000+).
- Learning support and EAL – often extra; can add LKR 80,000–200,000+ per year.
- Board exam fees (IGCSE, IB, A level) – not in tuition; budget LKR 80,000–180,000+ per exam session.
