IGCSE Recheck and Appeal Process

If your IGCSE result doesn’t match what you expected, you can request a recheck (clerical check or re-mark). Both Cambridge and Edexcel offer post-results services.

Types of Enquiry

  • Clerical check: The board checks that all marks were added and transferred correctly. Usually lower cost, no re-marking.
  • Re-mark (review of marking): A senior examiner looks at your script again. Higher fee, can result in a grade going up or down.

How to Request

  • School candidates: Request through your school; the school submits to the board.
  • Private candidates: Request through your exam centre (e.g. British Council).
  • There is a short window after results (often a few weeks)—don’t miss the deadline.

Fees and Outcomes

  • You pay a fee per component or paper. If the grade improves, the fee is often refunded.
  • If the grade goes down after a re-mark, the lower grade usually stands.
  • Your centre or school can give you the exact fees and deadline for your session.

Appeal

  • If you’re still unhappy after a re-mark, both boards have an appeals process (e.g. procedural review). Details and deadlines are on the board websites and from your centre.
