Can You Combine Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE? Mixing Exam Boards Explained
Can You Combine Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE?
Yes. You can take some subjects with Cambridge and others with Edexcel. You’ll get separate certificates (one from each board), and universities accept both.
How It Works
- Cambridge issues a certificate for the Cambridge subjects you cash in.
- Edexcel issues a certificate for the Edexcel subjects you cash in.
- You end up with two certificates (or more if you cash in in different sessions), not one combined certificate.
Why You Might Mix Boards
- Centre availability: One centre might offer Cambridge for most subjects but Edexcel for one.
- Session: Edexcel has a January session; if you need one subject in January, you might take that with Edexcel and the rest with Cambridge in May/June.
- Subject preference: Slight differences in syllabus or assessment might lead you to choose one board for a particular subject.
Universities and Employers
- Universities routinely accept a mix of Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSEs; they care about grades and subjects, not which board.
- Employers treat both boards as equivalent.
- Keep all your certificates for applications.
