IGCSE and University Recognition: How Universities View Cambridge & Edexcel
IGCSE and University Recognition Worldwide
Cambridge IGCSE and Edexcel International GCSE are widely recognised by universities in the UK, US, and internationally. They are often used as evidence of secondary-level achievement alongside A-Levels or equivalent.
UK Universities
- IGCSE is accepted as equivalent to GCSE for entry requirements (e.g. “5 GCSEs at 4/C or above” may be expressed as IGCSE grades).
- English and Maths at C/4 or above (or equivalent) are commonly required.
- A-Level (or equivalent) usually matters more for degree entry, but IGCSE can be part of conditional offers and widening participation.
US and International
- US universities often treat IGCSE as strong secondary credentials; they may look at overall profile (grades, subjects, other qualifications).
- International universities in Europe, Asia, Australia, and elsewhere routinely accept IGCSE; check each institution’s admissions page for “international qualifications.”
How to Present Your Results
- Submit your official certificate(s) or statement of results as required (upload, post, or verification service).
- If you have both Cambridge and Edexcel, send both certificates.
- Keep originals safe and use certified copies if requested.
