What to Take on IGCSE Exam Day 2026: Essential Items Checklist
Being unprepared on IGCSE exam day can add stress and, in some cases, lead to disqualification. Here’s what you must take and what you should leave at home.
Essential Items to Bring
1. Identification
- Candidate number – From your statement of entry
- ID – School ID, passport, or national ID (as required by your centre)
- Statement of entry – Bring it unless your centre says otherwise
2. Stationery (in a clear pencil case)
- Black or blue pens – Several, in case one runs out
- Pencils – For diagrams, graphs, multiple choice
- Eraser
- Ruler
- Compass and protractor – For Maths and Sciences
3. Calculator (if allowed)
- Check your subject – e.g. Maths and Sciences usually allow calculators
- Must meet Cambridge rules: no symbolic algebra, no data storage, etc.
- Remove covers and ensure it’s approved for use
4. Water
- Clear bottle, no labels
- Stay hydrated but avoid needing the toilet often

- Highlighter – For reading questions; confirm with centre
- Transparent geometry set
- Dictionary – Only for subjects where it’s permitted (e.g. some First Language papers)
What NOT to Bring
- Phones – Switch off and leave in bag outside, or at home
- Smartwatches – Remove before entering
- Notes or textbooks
- Correcting fluid – Often not allowed; cross out mistakes instead
- Food – Unless you have medical approval
- Bags – Usually left outside; bring only what you need
