The IGCSE May/June 2026 exams run in local time at each centre. This guide explains how timezones affect your exam schedule in UAE, Singapore, Malaysia, and Europe.

Why Timezones Matter

Cambridge International uses administrative zones so exams are taken at appropriate local times. Timetables show AM/PM sessions in the centre’s local time. Same subject, different zone = different clock time.

Timezone Reference for Main Markets

RegionTimezoneAbbreviationUTC Offset
UAE, DubaiGulf Standard TimeGSTUTC+4
SingaporeSingapore TimeSGTUTC+8
MalaysiaMalaysia TimeMYTUTC+8
UKBritish Summer Time (Apr–Oct)BSTUTC+1
UKGreenwich Mean Time (Oct–Apr)GMTUTC+0
Western EuropeCentral European Summer TimeCESTUTC+2

Example: Same Paper, Different Times

If Mathematics Paper 2 is scheduled for 09:00 AM in each zone:

  • UAE (GST): 09:00 UAE time
  • Singapore (SGT): 09:00 Singapore time (5 hours ahead of UAE)
  • Malaysia (MYT): 09:00 Malaysia time (same as Singapore)
  • UK (BST): 09:00 UK time (4 hours behind UAE, 7 hours behind Singapore)

Practical Tips

  1. Always use local time – Your timetable is in your centre’s timezone.
  2. Account for daylight saving – UK and parts of Europe change clocks; UAE, Singapore, and Malaysia do not.
  3. Plan travel – If your centre is in a different city, convert times correctly.
  4. Online tutoring – If using Tutopiya or similar, agree sessions in a shared timezone (e.g. UTC).

Converting Times

Use a timezone converter (e.g. worldtimebuddy.com) to compare exam times across regions when coordinating with family or tutors abroad.
