Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625: Your Complete Guide

Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0625) develops understanding of physics concepts and practical skills. This guide covers Core vs Extended, which papers you sit, calculator use, how hard it is, and how to prepare.

What is IGCSE Physics 0625?

0625 covers motion, forces, energy, waves, electricity, magnetism, and modern physics. It is widely used for entry to A-Level, IB, and science degrees.

Papers you need to choose

You choose one level:

  • Core (grades C–G): Paper 1 (multiple choice), Paper 3 (theory).
  • Extended (grades A*–D): Paper 2 (multiple choice), Paper 4 (theory).

You may also take Paper 5 (practical) or Paper 6 (alternative to practical). Your school decides which practical option you take. You cannot mix Core and Extended.

Calculator use

Calculators are allowed in theory and practical papers where calculations are required. You still need to show working and use correct units.

  • Difficulty: Extended is demanding: calculations, graphs, and application. Core is less demanding but caps at C. Practical or alternative-to-practical adds technique and data handling.
  • Popularity: 0625 is one of the most popular IGCSE physics codes globally.

Top revision tips for 0625

  1. Practise past papers for Paper 2/4 and your practical option (5 or 6) under timed conditions.
  2. Learn formulae and units — many marks are lost on units and rearranging.
  3. Draw and interpret graphs — motion, resistance, and waves come up often.
  4. Practise practical-style questions if you take Paper 6.
