Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics 0607: Your Complete Guide

Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics (0607) is a single-tier maths qualification that includes modelling and investigations alongside core maths. This guide covers papers, calculator use, difficulty, and how to prepare.

What is IGCSE International Mathematics 0607?

0607 develops mathematical knowledge and skills with a strong emphasis on application and investigation. Unlike 0580, there is no separate Core/Extended: all candidates take the same papers. It is accepted by schools and universities and is common in many international schools.

Papers you need

0607 has three papers:

  • Paper 1: Short and extended response; calculator allowed.
  • Paper 2: Short and extended response; calculator allowed.
  • Paper 6 – Investigation and Modelling (Extended): 1 hour 40 minutes, 60 marks. Part A (Investigation): questions 1–4, 30 marks — open-ended mathematical investigation. Part B (Modelling): questions 5–10, 30 marks — applying maths to real-life contexts. Graphic Display Calculator (GDC) allowed. Paper 6 is often considered the hardest paper in 0607: it tests investigation skills and modelling rather than routine techniques.

Your school will confirm whether you sit Paper 6 (it is part of the full 0607 assessment in many centres). There is no non-calculator paper for 0607; a scientific or graphical calculator (and for Paper 6, a GDC) is used in all papers.

Calculator use

Calculator is allowed for both papers. You still need to show working. A scientific or graphical calculator is recommended.

  • Difficulty: Papers 1 and 2 allow calculator use throughout and can feel more accessible for routine maths. Paper 6 (Investigation and Modelling) is very hard: it demands open-ended investigation, real-life modelling, and clear mathematical communication; many students find it the most challenging part of 0607. Practising past Paper 6s and understanding the mark scheme is essential.
  • Popularity: 0607 is well established in international schools. It is less common than 0580 globally but widely accepted.

Top revision tips for 0607

  1. Practise past papers for Paper 1, Paper 2, and Paper 6 under timed conditions with your calculator (and GDC for Paper 6).
  2. Paper 6 is the hardest — spend time on past Investigation and Modelling papers; understand how to structure investigations and model real-life situations.
  3. Use your calculator efficiently — graphs, tables, and equation-solving in Papers 1 and 2; GDC for Paper 6.
  4. Revise algebra, geometry, and statistics — all appear across the three papers.
