Myth 1: “The IB is only for gifted students”

Fact: The IB is challenging but designed for motivated learners of all backgrounds. It builds skills step by step. Success depends on effort and support, not only prior ability.

Myth 2: “The IB doesn’t help with Indian university admissions”

Fact: The IB Diploma is recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as equivalent to Grade 12. IB students are eligible to apply to Indian colleges and universities.

Myth 3: “IB is only for international schools”

Fact: Over 5,600 schools in 160+ countries offer the IB, including many public and state schools. It is not limited to elite international institutions.

Myth 4: “IB students can’t balance academics and activities”

Fact: CAS is built into the programme to support balance. The IB expects engagement beyond the classroom. Time management and support help students succeed.

Myth 5: “IB is all theory, no practical application”

Fact: The IB uses inquiry-based learning, real-world projects, IAs and CAS. Subjects connect to applications and global contexts.

Grey areas and clarifications

Predicted grades: Teachers’ estimates; not guaranteed. Universities use them for offers, but final grades can differ.

Moderation: IA marks can move up or down for a whole class. Individual appeals are limited.

Retakes: Possible in a later session; check with your school and the IB.

Certificate candidates: Students can take individual subjects without the full diploma; check university recognition.
