How Tutopiya AI uses your data
Last updated 14 October 2026
Tutopiya AI is part of Tutopiya and uses your Tutopiya account. The Tutopiya Privacy Policy applies to everything here. This page explains, in plain words, what Tutopiya AI itself keeps and why.
What we keep
- Your chats with the AI tutors: your messages, the tutor's replies, and any files, photos, whiteboard sketches or voice notes you send.
- For voice calls, a written transcript and a short summary. We don't keep the call audio.
- Lesson recordings you upload, and what we make from them: the transcript, notes, mind map, quiz, flashcards, key-moment pictures and the spoken revision.
- How much you've used each day, so we can apply the daily limits.
How it's used
To write the tutor's replies and to analyse your lessons, we send the relevant messages, files and recordings to Google's Gemini AI service. We use your data to run Tutopiya AI for you. We don't sell it.
Where it's stored
Files and recordings are kept in private cloud storage. They can only be opened through your account, using links that expire after a short time.
How long we keep it
Your chats and lessons stay until you delete them. Deleting a chat removes its messages and files. Deleting a lesson removes its recording and everything made from it. We never delete your recordings on our own, so your earlier lessons stay available.
Usage statistics
We count how Tutopiya AI is used, for example which pages are visited and when a quiz is finished, to improve it. These statistics never include what you type, say or upload.
Recordings of other people
Only upload recordings you have permission to share. If a recording includes other people, such as a teacher or classmates, make sure they're happy for it to be analysed.
Questions
