Most online GPA calculators are designed around American "credit hours" — a concept foreign to IGCSE, A Level and IB students. We rebuilt the Tutopiya GPA Calculator so each curriculum gets its own page with:
For deep background on how each curriculum converts to GPA, see our guide: How GPA is calculated for IB, IGCSE and American curricula.
How the Tutopiya GPA calculators work, what counts as a good GPA, and when you actually need a GPA for university applications.
Pick the calculator that matches the qualification you sit. Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel IGCSE → use the IGCSE GPA Calculator. International AS / A Level → A Level GPA Calculator. IB Diploma Programme → IB DP GPA Calculator. American high school (regular / honours / AP) → American GPA Calculator. Each page has the right grade scale and weighting conventions pre-loaded.
No. The Tutopiya GPA calculator hides credit fields entirely and applies the conventional per-curriculum weighting automatically (IGCSE: equal weight per subject; A Level: per-subject; IB DP: HL counted heavier than SL; American: bonus for Honours / AP / IB courses). This matches how IGCSE / A Level / IB students actually think about their grades — no American 'credit hours' concept needed.
An unweighted GPA caps at 4.0 — every top grade (A* at IGCSE, A* at A Level, 7 at IB) maps to 4.0 regardless of how rigorous the course is. A weighted GPA can reach 5.0 by adding bonus points for rigorous courses: +0.5 for Honours / IB SL and +1.0 for AP / IB HL / A Level. Each Tutopiya GPA calculator returns both values so you can quote whichever your target university asks for.
Yes — fully free to use. You can enter as many subjects as you need and see your unweighted and weighted GPA instantly. CSV / Print / Email PDF downloads require a free Tutopiya account (the same account that unlocks the rest of Tutopiya's tools and the Learning Portal).
Use the Tutopiya GPA as a self-assessment and personal-planning number, not as an official transcript. US universities almost always recalculate your GPA using their own conversion formula when they evaluate your application. Common App and most US college portals let you enter your grades in their native IGCSE / A Level / IB format — and admissions officers do the conversion themselves.
After you've signed up for a free Tutopiya account, use the Email me my breakdown button on any calculator page to send yourself (or forward) a clean PDF of your subject-by-subject GPA breakdown. Useful for parent-teacher meetings, tutor sessions and university applications.
