How Tutopiya subscription payments work — monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual billing, when you are charged, how to upsize or downsize your plan, and how to keep learning without interruption.

A Tutopiya subscription makes tuition budgeting simple: one predictable payment each cycle, lessons added to your account automatically, and receipts you can share with parents or schools. You can bill monthly, quarterly, bi-annually, or annually — and longer cycles unlock more discounts. This guide explains how subscription billing works, and how you can upsize or downsize your plan as your study needs change.

Billing cycles: monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual

When you start a subscription, you choose both your lesson volume and how often you pay:

  • Monthly — billed every month; maximum flexibility
  • Quarterly — billed every 3 months; better value with a discount
  • Bi-annual — billed every 6 months; bigger discount
  • Annual — billed once a year; best discount

Your checkout or advisor screen shows the exact price and savings for each option. Longer plans are ideal if you already know you want steady support through a school term or full exam year.

Bi-annual

How subscription billing works

When you confirm a subscription, you agree to a lesson plan at a set price for your chosen billing cycle. Each cycle:

  • Your subscription renews on your renewal date (monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, or annual)
  • Payment is taken using your saved card or approved payment method
  • Lessons for the new cycle are added to your balance
  • You receive a confirmation email and can view the invoice in your account

Automatic renewal means you never have to remember to “top up” before exam week — your subscription keeps lessons flowing.

When you are charged

  • First subscription payment — When you confirm your plan after a trial or enrolment
  • Cycle renewal — On your renewal date (every month, 3 months, 6 months, or year, depending on your plan)
  • Extra lessons — Charged immediately when you add lessons outside your plan
  • Plan upsize — May be charged at the change or from the next cycle (shown before you confirm)
  • Plan downsize — Usually takes effect from the next renewal, so you keep what you have already paid for in the current cycle

Upsize or downsize your plan

Your study load changes through the year — more lessons before mocks, fewer during holidays. Tutopiya lets you upsize or downsize your subscription so the plan stays aligned with your goals.

  • Upsize — Move to a higher lesson volume (or a longer billing cycle) when you need more tutor time. Ideal before exams or when adding another subject.
  • Downsize — Move to a lighter plan when your timetable eases, without cancelling your subscription entirely.

You will see the new price and when the change applies before you confirm. For step-by-step controls in your account, see how to manage your subscription.

⬆️ Upsize

More lessons or a longer billing cycle when you need extra support — for example before IGCSE, A Level, or IB exams.

⬇️ Downsize

Fewer lessons when your schedule lightens — keep your tutor and subscription without overpaying.

Payment methods

Tutopiya accepts major credit and debit cards through our secure payment partner. Keeping an up-to-date card on file helps your subscription renew without gaps — so your tutor slot and study momentum stay protected.

View invoices and payment history

  1. Log in to the learning portal
  2. Open Payment History (or Settings → Subscription / Billing)
  3. Download or view past subscription invoices

Parents often use these records for expense tracking or school reimbursement — another practical benefit of clear subscription billing.

Update your payment card

If your card expires or you switch banks, update payment details before your next renewal date. A failed payment can pause your subscription until the card is fixed — we will email you if action is needed.

Failed payments

If a subscription payment does not go through:

  • Check your email for a payment reminder
  • Update your card in Settings → Subscription
  • Contact support@tutopiya.com if you believe the charge was made in error

Refunds and unused hours

Unused hours on your subscription are refundable. If you cancel or change your plan and still have hours left on your balance, you can request a refund for those unused hours. Contact support@tutopiya.com with your invoice reference and we will process it fairly and promptly.
