Study Notes
BIDMAS is a rule that helps determine the order of operations in mathematical expressions. It ensures calculations are performed correctly.
- Brackets — operations inside brackets are done first. Example: In (2 + 3) × 4, calculate 2 + 3 first.
- Indices — powers or exponents are calculated after brackets. Example: In 3² + 4, calculate 3² first.
- Division and Multiplication — these are performed from left to right. Example: In 8 ÷ 2 × 3, perform 8 ÷ 2 first.
- Addition and Subtraction — these are also performed from left to right. Example: In 5 + 6 - 2, perform 5 + 6 first.
