IB Economics HL (Higher Level) is the IB Diploma Programme's social-science course on economic theory and policy at higher level. The 2022+ syllabus is organised around four units — Introduction to economics, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and The global economy — taught across 240 teaching hours through the lens of nine key concepts. HL extends SL with deeper coverage of market structures (perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, monopoly), asymmetric information, comparative advantage, government debt, and quantitative analysis. Assessment is three externally examined papers plus a teacher-marked Internal Assessment portfolio of three commentaries.
