Where is Save My Exams strongest?
Breadth of revision content. It covers more boards and levels than most platforms, including IB and AP, and links to over 30 Cambridge IGCSE subjects. Its Test Builder lets teachers “filter questions by topic and difficulty” and “download your test in print-ready PDFs”. Smart Mark gives students AI marking on written answers, which Save My Exams says is “aligned to your exam board’s mark scheme”. Save My Exams reports from its own survey of 1,878 teachers that users save “4 hours 51 minutes a week”. That is a self-reported figure.
Where is AI Buddy strongest?
Running practice and assessment across a department. AI Buddy is licensed to schools, so teachers set work online, AI Buddy marks it instantly, and heads of department see results by class, topic and student. It also includes mock exams with predicted-grade insights, which suit schools that want assessment data, not just revision content. Its coverage is narrower than Save My Exams: 26 IGCSE and A Level subjects across Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel.
What about AI marking?
Both use AI for practice, and neither should be the sole marker of assessed work. Cambridge, Pearson and JCQ rules say AI cannot be the sole marker of work that counts. Save My Exams’ Smart Mark is aimed at students checking their own written answers. AI Buddy gives AI feedback on every practice attempt, with teachers seeing the results. Both are formative tools. See how accurate AI marking is and how to validate it.
Which should a school choose?
Choose by the problem you are solving:
- Revision resources for students across many boards, printable tests for teachers: Save My Exams.
- Department-wide online practice, instant marking and cohort data for Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE and A Level: AI Buddy.
- Both: some schools use a revision site for notes alongside a school platform for assessment. Check the combined cost per active student.
Run a short pilot before deciding, and ask each supplier for the same written answers on coverage, data and pricing. Our EdTech procurement checklist sets out the questions, and the 2026 platform comparison covers more alternatives.
How schools do this with AI Buddy
Schools usually start AI Buddy with one department and a mock. Teachers set past-paper-style questions, AI Buddy marks them instantly with feedback, and the head of department reviews cohort gaps on the dashboard. AI Buddy can be white-labelled under the school’s name. Ask us for our data processing terms in writing as part of your checks.
