Tutor & Teacher Training: the International A Level component

The curriculum work covers Cambridge and Edexcel International A Level from the basics — assessment objectives, mark scheme wording, and how the papers differ from IGCSE and from a national curriculum. It sits inside our Pedagogy, Curricula & Inclusive Education course, so you also get trial-lesson technique, online engagement and SEND strategies in the same place. Videos, notes and quizzes you can work through at your own pace.

  • How do I get started as an IGCSE, A Level or IB tutor?
  • How do I run a successful trial lesson?
  • How do I engage students and parents without being pushy?
  • How do I support students with ADHD, autism or dyslexia online?

Already teaching another board? The readiness check shows what transfers to International A Level and what the mark schemes reward differently.

📚 The International A Level lessons in the course

These are the International A Level lessons available so far. Each has written notes, a lesson checklist and a training video. More are being written — the rest of the course already covers IGCSE, IB and PSLE.

Lesson 01

In the meantime the IGCSE lessons cover exam board comparison and examiner insights, and most of that thinking carries straight up to International A Level.

🧭 How the training works

Try it free, then subscribe

Start for free and see whether it suits you. One subscription unlocks every training course — IGCSE, International A Level, IB, the Singapore curriculum and SEND — along with the Learning Portal's resources and tools for those curricula across a wide range of subjects, which you can use with your own students.

Notes, checklist and video

Each lesson gives you all three, so you can read it, watch it, or use the checklist while you plan — whichever suits how you work.

Quizzes, progress and a certificate

Each lesson has a Test Yourself section to check you have taken it in. Your progress and completion are tracked as you go, and Tutopiya issues a certificate once you finish the course.

🎯 Who it is for

Moving up from IGCSE

You teach the qualification below and are being asked for International A Level. The step up is in depth of analysis and how much of the argument the student has to build themselves.

Coming from IB Diploma

Start with IB DP vs A Levels. Both are demanding, but they are assessed and graded differently, and the habits do not all transfer.

Experienced, moving online

The specification is familiar; one-to-one online is not. The trial lesson and engagement material is where your time is best spent.

Not sure which applies to you? The tutor readiness check reads your qualifications and experience and tells you which lessons close your gaps.
