Cambridge & Edexcel International A-Level UCAS Points 2026

Cambridge International A-Level and Edexcel International A-Level (IAL) carry the same UCAS Tariff points as UK A-Level, grade for grade. Enter your grades to get your total — or, if your offer is stated in points, work backwards to see exactly which grades you need.

Why this trips up international students on results day

UK universities usually quote offer conditions as UCAS Tariff points or as specific grade combinations. Neither of those is inherently written for Cambridge or Edexcel International A-Level students — so when your offer says "112 points" or "BBC," it's easy to assume you need to translate somehow. You don't: Cambridge and Edexcel IAL grades sit on exactly the same Tariff table as UK A-Level. The tool above handles both directions — enter your grades to see your points, or enter the points your offer needs to see which grade combinations reach it.

Where Cambridge and Edexcel IAL genuinely differ from each other — and from UK A-Level — is in how resits and reviews of marking work after results day. Edexcel IAL is modular, so a single weak unit can be resat without redoing the whole subject; Cambridge is linear, so a resit means the whole AS or A2 stage. See our A-Level Remarks & Resits 2026 guide for the full breakdown, or the Remark or Resit Decision Tool for fees and deadlines by board.

International A-Level UCAS Points Calculator FAQ

Do Cambridge International A-Level grades count the same as UK A-Level for UCAS points? +

Yes — Cambridge International A-Level and Edexcel International A-Level (IAL) carry identical UCAS Tariff point values to UK A-Level, grade for grade (A* = 56 points, A = 48, and so on). UCAS treats them the same way in its Tariff table. The confusion for most international students isn't a different points value — it's not realising the qualification maps onto the UK scale at all, or not knowing how to work backwards from an offer stated in points.

My offer says I need 112 UCAS points — what grades do I need in Cambridge/Edexcel IAL? +

Use the 'I know what my offer needs' mode on the calculator below — enter your target points and number of subjects, and it lists grade combinations that reach it. For example, 112 points across 3 subjects could be met with BCC, or across other combinations shown by the tool.

Does Edexcel International A-Level (IAL) count differently from Cambridge International A-Level? +

No — both carry the same UCAS Tariff values as standard UK A-Level. The two boards differ in how resits and reviews of marking work (Edexcel IAL is modular and lets you resit individual units; Cambridge is linear), but that doesn't affect UCAS Tariff points.

Do all UK universities use UCAS Tariff points for international qualifications? +

No — as with UK A-Level, some of the most selective universities (Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Imperial) set specific grade conditions rather than using Tariff points at all. Always check the individual university's published entry requirements for your qualification alongside this calculator.
