Cambridge IGCSE Business 0264 replaces Business Studies 0450, with a new code and title from March 2027. It keeps the same six units and two 80-mark papers, adds topics on technology and sustainable production, and shifts assessment weight towards application. Paper 1 questions have four parts instead of five. Schools move to 0264 rather than choose between them.

What is the difference between Cambridge IGCSE Business 0264 and 0450?

0264 is 0450 revised, recoded and renamed. Cambridge’s 0450 page says: “We have changed the syllabus code to 0264 for first assessment March 2027. We have also renamed the title to ‘Business’ to align with our Cambridge International AS & A Level Business qualification (9609)” (Cambridge). The latest 0450 syllabus is for “exams in 2026”, and there is no 0450 syllabus for 2027 onwards.

What content changes in IGCSE Business 0264?

The six units stay the same: understanding business activity, people in business, marketing, operations management, financial information and decisions, and external influences on business activity. Within them, Cambridge says:

  • “New topics have been added – 4.2 Technology and production of goods and services and 4.3 Sustainable production of goods and services.”
  • “Digital methods of communication have been included in Topic 2.”
  • “Some topics have been reorganised and reduced in size” and “some content has been removed”.
  • “A list of formulas and ratios” has been added.

The new aims reflect this. Students “investigate and understand the impact of digital technology in the production of goods and services” and “explore environmental issues and methods of sustainability within business, both locally and globally”.

How does assessment change?

The papers look the same but reward application more. AO2 Application rises from 20% to 30% of the qualification, and knowledge, analysis and evaluation each fall. On Paper 1, “each question now has four parts instead of five”, and the mark breakdown changes. On Paper 2, “all part (a) questions are now applied questions”, while the marking criteria stay “largely the same”. For teachers, this means fewer marks for definitions recalled in isolation and more for using the case context.

Should schools switch from 0450 to 0264?

There is no parallel choice to make: 0264 is the syllabus for exams from 2027. The real decisions are about timing and teaching:

  1. Students sitting exams in 2027 or later sit 0264. Check which of your current Year 10 and Year 11 groups that includes, and your series (March, June or November).
  2. Update schemes of work for topics 4.2 and 4.3 and the reorganised content.
  3. Retrain on application. With AO2 at 30%, practice questions should require students to use the case, not just define terms.
  4. Replace old practice papers with Cambridge’s specimen papers for 0264. The syllabus is now at version 2, which updated formulas and a specimen mark scheme.
  5. Check endorsed textbooks against the 2027 syllabus.

The same recoding applies elsewhere. IGCSE (9–1) Business Studies 0986 becomes Business 0774, and O Level Business Studies 7115 becomes Business 7081, both from June 2027. 0264 cannot be combined with 0774 or 7081 in the same series. Cambridge’s digital roadmap lists 0264 as “Launching 2030”.

How schools do this with AI Buddy

AI Buddy gives Business students past-paper-style questions with instant marking and feedback, and teachers see topic-level gaps for each class. During the move to 0264, heads of department can check which students still answer knowledge questions well but lose marks on application. That is the skill 0264 now weights most. Ask us which parts of the new 0264 content AI Buddy covers before you plan around it.
