Raw Marks, PUM & UTR-Style Scores – in Simple Terms
How Cambridge moves from the marks on the paper to a final grade and percentage uniform mark.
From raw mark to grade and PUM
For each 2026 session, Cambridge first marks the paper to give a raw mark. Examiners then set grade boundaries so that, for example, a certain raw mark and above is a B. Finally, Cambridge converts the raw mark into a percentage uniform mark (PUM) out of 100, which shows where your child sits inside the grade they achieved.
PUM is similar in purpose to the UMS or “UTR-style” scores that some parents see in school portals: it helps you see if your child is at the top, middle, or bottom of a band (for example, a “strong B” close to an A).
