Cambridge A Level marking flow
For each 2026 A Level syllabus, Cambridge first awards a raw mark on each component. Grade boundaries are then set so that, for example, a particular total raw mark and above is an A, another band is a B, and so on.
Those raw marks are finally converted into a percentage uniform mark (PUM) between 0 and 100, which tells you where a candidate sits inside the grade they achieved (for example, a strong B close to an A). This is similar in spirit to the scaled scores some parents know as “UTR-style” marks.
