Expat families moving to Singapore are sure to find many international schools. The biggest influences on fees are the child's age and the curriculum. This article compares fees for the 2024 year. It includes details on what affects the fees, different types of fees, costs for applying or registering, and how you can pay.
Key Takeaways
A quick overview of the most important points about international school fees in Singapore for 2024.
Important Fee Information
Fees increase every year for many schools, so this guide is based on the latest 2024 data. It's a one-stop solution for parents to decide which schools meet their budgets. We have also broken down fees by category and indicated costs of higher grades for future planning.
- International school fees in Singapore can vary significantly, with top schools costing upwards of $40,000 per year.
- The age of the child and the curriculum offered are the two most influential factors on international school fees.
- Many international schools in Singapore require additional fees such as a 'building fee' or 'capital levy' on top of the standard tuition fees.
- Application and registration fees are common, with the former covering administrative costs and the latter securing a student's place in the school.
- Flexible payment options, including installments and discounts for upfront annual payments, are often available at international schools in Singapore.
Understanding International School Fees
Key factors that determine the cost of international education in Singapore.
Age and Curriculum
In Singapore, the age of the child and the school's curriculum significantly affect the fees. Older students generally pay more for school, and specialized programs like the IB Diploma often cost more than others. Additional activities and learning support can also increase the overall costs.
Fee Structures
Fee structures can differ at each school. Some institutions list fees separately, while others bundle them into a single, all-inclusive fee. Most schools also charge a 'building fee' or 'capital levy' for campus maintenance and development, which is typically an extra cost not included in the standard tuition.
Types of Fees
A breakdown of the various fees you'll encounter when enrolling your child in an international school.
Application & Registration Fees
When applying, there's a one-time 'application fee' for administrative costs. Once accepted, a 'registration fee' is required to secure the student's spot. This fee may be called an 'enrollment fee' but serves the same purpose.
Fee Payment Options
Fees are often paid in installments per semester or term. However, many schools offer a small discount for paying the full annual fee upfront at the start of the academic year.
Scholarships & Aid
For those who need financial assistance, some schools offer scholarships or bursaries. Information on these programs is usually available on the school's website or by contacting the admissions office.
